It's simply our environmental responsibility and it starts with:
the way we learn and educate
the way we operate; and
the way we act
Introducing sustainable operational behaviours that support and educate - Reduce | Reuse | Recycle are green initiatives we take seriously. Our team have adopted reducing, reusing and recycling in the context of waste management, purchasing behaviours and operating systems.
As a helicopter (aircraft) operator it is imperative that our purchasing behaviour supports eco-friendly and eco-efficient technologies of tomorrow and this is something Airbus 'Eurocopter aircrafts' value being a more sustainable option for the future. Our two Eurocopter models the EC120 and AS350 B3 Squirrel performance enhancements include fuel consumption reduction (consume less energy) and signature noise reduction therefore; better for the environment and our magnificent marine wildlife 'whales'. Our third helicopter - the 'JetRanger', South Pacific Helicopters NZ will commit to upgrading this aircraft by the end of 2018.
We decided to support and partner with two 'green and sustainable organisations'
Trees for Travellers (local Kaikoura)
Native Forest Restoration Trust (NZ native reserves)
This project is about working together with our customers to put 'give' something back while travelling around New Zealand. Join us - buy a native New Zealand tree, which Tree for Travellers will plant on a local Kaikoura reserve, to attract birdlife, back to our beautiful town and offset some of the carbon emissions used while travelling in New Zealand.
CLICK HERE for more information about Trees for Travellers.
Our business is committed to understand, measure and reduce our emissions of CO2.
We know through our partnership with Native Forest Restoration Trust (NFRT) we will be directly contributing to the restoration and enhancement of native vegetation, trees and the return of wildlife to the region. Depleted Reserves consist of a forested plateau and potential risk of new emerging disease problems threatening our giant native, the Kauri.
A fully grown kauri can reach up to 60m, the trunk five metres or more in diameter. They are slow growing and some kauris are 2,000 years old. It is our environmental responsibility to get involved!
South Pacific Helicopters NZ trading as South Pacific Whale Watch is a proud Silver Carbon Partner and supporting 'The Waipoua Reserve' - incorporating the Prof McGregor Reserve, Cynthia Hewett Reserve and Elvie McGregor Reserve.
NFRT partners help to fund the restoration of native trees such as the magnificent kauri, manuka, cabbage trees, karaka, puriri, nikau, karaka, kowhai, kahikatea, kohekohe, taraire and tree coprosma, flora and fauna (native floor vegetation species), the wetland native species, and threatened bird species such as the brown kiwi, kokako, kaka and NZ pigeon just to name a few.
